Sokolniki line. Sokolnicheskaya metro line with stations - history
Sokolnicheskaya line underground is the first section of the Moscow Metro. The length of the branch with 19 stations is just over 26 kilometers.
History of the Sokolnicheskaya line
The first mine for the construction of the Moscow metro was founded in 1931 on Rusakovskaya street. The geological conditions and the presence of historical monuments along the proposed route contributed to the fact that it was decided to make the route deep and carry out work in a closed way.
On February 5, 1935, the first trial train was launched from Sokolniki to the Park Kultury station. On May 15, the Moscow subway was fully opened for the carriage of passengers. The total length of the branch was 11.6 kilometers.
interesting to note that the first trains on the Sokolnicheskaya metro line consisted of only 4 cars.
In the years Patriotic War the departments of the General Staff and Air Defense were placed on the Chistye Prudy platform, and the trains followed here without stopping. Later, a specially built bunker for the air defense headquarters appeared under the station.
After the mid-1950s, it was decided to extend the Sokolnicheskaya metro line to the South-West of the capital. This is how the Vorobyovy Gory station appeared, which was opened in 1959.
Due to technical errors during the construction of the metro bridge, in 1983 the station was mothballed and trains were allowed to run along bypass bridges laid parallel to the main track. Today, the station is already open to passengers, and its 270-meter platform has become the longest on the Moscow metro.
In 1963, trains began to run from Universitet to Yugo-Zapadnaya, and in 1966 the upper part of the line was extended to Preobrazhenskaya Square.
Due to the increased load on the Severnoye depot serving this line, in the mid-80s it was decided to build a new depot in Cherkizovo. So there were new stations on this branch - "Cherkizovskaya" and "Ulitsa Podbelskogo".
Due to the unfortunate location of the last two stations, in the future it is planned to include them in the possible "Big Ring" of the Moscow metro. In this case, the Sokolnicheskaya metro line is closed at the Shchelkovskaya station.

Sokolnicheskaya line - the first line of the Moscow Metro - a diametrical line connecting the eastern districts of Moscow through the center with the southwest. The predominantly underground line includes sections of both deep and shallow, including one of the two existing shallow sections inside the Garden Ring, and two metro bridges: open - over the Yauza River, and closed - over the Moskva River with the only Vorobyovy Gory station located on the metro bridge. The line is indicated on the maps in red.

Initially, it was called the Myasnitsky radius, then - the Myasnitsko-Usachev diameter, the Myasnitsko-Frunzensky diameter, and since December 1934 - the Kirov-Frunzensky diameter. From the laying of an experimental mine of the future radius on Rusakovskaya st. in December 1931, the construction of the Moscow metro began. In May 1932, the project of the first stage was completed. In addition to the Myasnitsko-Usachev diameter, it included the Arbat radius of the current Filevskaya line. In total, in 1932, it was planned to build five diameters for the future: Myasnitsko-Usachevsky ("Cherkizovo" - "Lenin Mountains"), Arbatsko-Pokrovsky ("Kutuzovo" - "Blagusha"), Tagansko-Tversky ("Plant named after Stalin" - "Vsekhsvyatskoe"), Zamoskvoretsko-Dzerzhinsky ("Lower Kotly" - "Ostankino") and Rogozhsko-Krasnopresnensky ("Falcon Mountain" - "Vagankovo"). The Kaluga-Timiryazevsky diameter and the Circle line were also considered.
On March 21, 1933, by a decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR, a metro development scheme of five diametrical lines was approved and the scope of work of the first stage from the station. "Sokolniki" to the station. "Crimean Square" with a branch to the station. "Smolensk market". Initially, it was planned to open the metro by November 7, 1934, but large-scale work was launched only in January 1934. Tunnels and stations were built both in an open way and in a mountain. In one section, shield tunneling was used for the first time: on March 17, 1934, the tunneling of the first distillation tunnel between st. Okhotny Ryad (mine No. 12) and st. "Dzerzhinsky Square" (mine No. 13) with the help of a British-made Markham tunneling shield. On May 15, 1934, in parallel with it, a shield manufactured by Soyuzstalmost Design Bureau began to excavate the second distillation tunnel. During the penetration of the English shield, on September 24, 1934, the most severe accident occurred at the construction of the first stage: as a result of a fire that began due to a short circuit in the caisson, engineer Andrei Yakovlevich Chistyakov and tunneler Karibulla Khusainov died, and 11 metro builders were poisoned carbon monoxide. The sinking of the English shield was completed on November 24, 1934, and on December 15 the second tunnel was completed by the Soviet shield. The length of the passed tunnel was 428 m. Dzerzhinsky completed the tunneling of the first stage. October 15, 1934 along the section from the Severnoye depot to the station. "Komsomolskaya Square" and from the station. "Komsomolskaya Square" under one way to the station. "Sokolniki" passed the first test train, which consisted of a two-car section (motor and trailer cars of type A).

On February 5, 1935, the first trial four-car train ran along the entire line. On February 6, a demonstration run-in of the line was organized with the participation of the country's leaders and congress delegates. On February 16, trial operation of all sections begins. On April 19, regular operation of signaling systems began on the entire line, and from April 19 to 24, excursion trips are held throughout the day by special invitations for workers and employees of Moscow enterprises.
On May 2, for one day, all metro stations open their doors for free entry and inspection. From May 9 to May 11, the movement of trains with sightseers continues. On May 15, 1935, at 6:45 a.m., the stations were opened for entry, and from 7:00 a.m., schedule traffic began. The first 13 stations of the Moscow Metro were opened under the following names: Sokolniki, Krasnoselskaya, Komsomolskaya, Krasnye Vorota, Kirovskaya, Dzerzhinskaya, Okhotny Ryad, Lenin Library, Palace of Soviets , Gorky Park of Culture, Komintern Street, Arbatskaya and Smolenskaya. Trains followed in turn along two routes: Sokolniki - Okhotny Ryad - Gorky Park of Culture and Sokolniki - Okhotny Ryad - Smolenskaya. Throughout the day, there was an unchanged tact schedule with a 12-pair schedule: a 5-minute interval on the general section and a 10-minute interval on the branches. 9 four-car trains worked simultaneously on the line. Turnovers at the terminal stations were carried out through the exit in front of the station without the use of turnaround dead ends. The line was considered to consist of three radii: Kirov, Frunzen and Arbat. There was no direct transfer between the Lenin Library and Ulitsa Kominterna stations, although both stations had access to a common vestibule that does not exist now. To transfer from one branch to another, it was necessary to get to the station. "Okhotny Ryad" and wait for the right train.
In September, the parity was increased, while due to the lack of wagons for a short time, until October 11, two-car section trains were produced on the line. On October 11, the tact schedule was canceled, and a combined schedule was introduced, according to which the pairing on the line changed depending on the time of day (and the amount of passenger traffic). On November 16, the line began to be produced on a par with four-car and six-car trains, and from March 20, 1936, only six-car (three-section) trains were produced on the line. Since April 29, 1936, the turnover at the station. "Sokolniki" began to be performed in reverse dead ends.
On March 20, 1937, traffic was opened from the station. "Smolenskaya" to the new - 14th metro station - "Kyiv", the first station of the II stage of construction. The first open section appeared in operation: the Smolensky metro bridge with an approach. Turnover at st. "Kyiv" was carried out in reverse dead ends. Since April 29, the last turnover deadlocks have also been involved: for st. Gorky Park of Culture.
On March 13, 1938, 2 metro stations of the second stage of construction were opened: Ploshchad Revolyutsii and Kurskaya. From Art. "Comintern Street" trains went to the station. "Revolution Square", the movement of trains with passengers along the section "Okhotny Ryad" - "Comintern Street" was stopped. As a result, two separate lines were formed: Kirovsko-Frunzenskaya and Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya. A direct transfer was opened between the stations “Library named after Lenin” and “Ulitsa Kominterna” through pedestrian tunnels leading to the ends of the platforms of st. "Street of the Comintern".
On September 11, 1938, the Gorky radius from st. "Sverdlov Square" to the station. "Sokol" with 6 stations of the II stage. Art. "Okhotny Ryad" became a transfer station, while the transfer was carried out through a common one with the station. "Sverdlov Square" lobby.
In 1937, sections of the III stage of construction were determined, as well as the prospective development of the metro. It was planned to extend the Kirovsko-Frunzenskaya line in both directions: to the east from Sokolniki to 3 stations with the construction of an electric depot in Cherkizovo and to the south-west from Park Kultury to 5 stations through Usachevsky, under the Moskva River to promising areas housing construction of Ramenki and Aminyevo, however, until the 1950s, no work was carried out to extend the line.
On December 30, 1944, a separate passage was opened between st. Okhotny Ryad and Sverdlov Square (between the central halls of both stations). With the opening of the first section of the Circle Line on January 1, 1950, a new combined vestibule of st. Gorky Park of Culture, built on the site of the former southern vestibule in 1935. Also, with the opening of the second section of the Circle Line on January 30, 1952, the old vestibule of st. "Komsomolskaya" was replaced by a combined vestibule of the Kirovsko-Frunzenskaya and Koltsevaya lines. With the opening on April 5, 1953 of a new section of the deep foundation of the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line from st. "Revolution Square" to the station. "Kyiv" and the closure of the old section of shallow laying, a new entrance hall of the transition between the station. “Library named after Lenin” and “Arbatskaya” of the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line with a staircase and an escalator rise from the entrance hall to the former vestibule of the station. "Kalininskaya" (until December 24, 1946 - "Comintern Street"). Thus, Art. "Library named after Lenin", from 1946 to 1953. which had one vestibule on Mokhovaya St., received a second vestibule with access to the street. Kalinin. Transition corridors to the platforms st. "Kalininskaya" were, accordingly, closed.
On July 31, 1954, the northern vestibule of st. "Red Gate", built into a high-rise building and built along with it.
In December 1954, the line switched to service with 7-car trains. November 25, 1955 Art. "Okhotny Ryad" was renamed "Named after L. M. Kaganovich", the name "Okhotny Ryad" was returned in the fall of 1957. On March 20, 1957 Art. "Palace of Soviets" received current name"Kropotkinskaya".
On May 1, 1957, the first extension of the line took place: a deep section from st. "Park of Culture named after Gorky" to the station. "Sports" from the intermediate station. "Frunzenskaya". The station "Sportivnaya" until April 1957 bore the design name "Usachevskaya".
With the resumption of traffic on November 7, 1958 along the shallow Arbat radius with the creation of a new Arbatsko-Filyovskaya line, the transition from the station. "Library named after Lenin" at st. Kalininskaya.
On January 12, 1959, the second extension of the line took place: a section from st. "Sports" to Art. "Universitet" with the intermediate station "Leninskiye Gory" (a test train passed through the section on January 7). Leninskiye Gory station became the first station located on the metro bridge. Initially, it was planned to lead the line under the Moskva River with a deep foundation to the area of Michurinskiy Prospekt, but in the end the option of a bridge crossing was chosen. Between Art. "Sportivnaya" and "Leninskie Gory" another intermediate station was planned. Luzhnikovskaya. On July 22, 1959, an escalator gallery was opened on the Lenin Hills, connecting the exit to the street. Kosygin and a platform near the entrance to the southern vestibule of st. "Lenin's mountains".
On October 29, 1959, an underground passage under the street was opened. Gorky with a new entrance to the station. Okhotny Ryad, and the Okhotny Ryad station itself was renamed again in November 1961, this time to Prospekt Marx. May 29, 1962 Art. "Red Gate" was renamed into "Lermontovskaya".
In January 1961, work began on the construction of a section from st. "University" to st. "South-West" from the intermediate station. "Prospect Vernadsky" (project names of "Prospect Vernadsky" - "Proezd No. 3757", and "South-West" - "Experimental quarter"). Initially, a third station was also planned - Proezd No. 4639 - at the intersection of Prosp. Vernadsky and st. Krupskaya, but in the final version she was abandoned. The construction of a new section was supposed to provide transport for the territory of the 1967 World Exhibition (which would never be held in the USSR). On the stretch "Proezd No. 3757" - "Experimental Quarter" by the forces of SMU-7, with the help of an open method shield, an experimental section of a double-track tunnel with an all-section lining was built for the first time.
On December 30, 1963, the third extension of the Kirovsko-Frunzenskaya line took place: the section from st. "University" to st. "Yugo-Zapadnaya" with the intermediate station "Prospect Vernadsky" was opened. At the time of opening around st. "South-West" lacked any urban development.
In February 1965 at st. The Lenin Library opened an additional exit through the stairs in the center of the platform and a corridor parallel to the station to the existing transition to the Arbatskaya and Kalininskaya stations. In April 1965, an exit was opened from this corridor to a new underground vestibule, connected by an underground passage with the Alexander Garden.
On December 31, 1965, as part of the fourth extension of the line, a section from st. "Sokolniki" to the station. "Preobrazhenskaya Square" with the second metro bridge on the line - across the Yauza River. The station bore the project name "Preobrazhenskaya", the word "square" was added shortly before the opening.
In 1968, the first stage of the reconstruction of st. "Dzerzhinskaya": an inclined passage was opened to the northern underground vestibule with access to the under-street passage under the square. Dzerzhinsky. Thus, a second entrance hall appeared at the station. Until 1968 at st. "Dzerzhinskaya" the escalator of the southern vestibule led to the only entrance hall with passages on both sides to the station platforms. With the opening on December 31, 1971 of the central section of the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line with the stations "Turgenevskaya" and "Kolkhoznaya", to ensure a transfer to the station. "Turgenevskaya" was completed, begun at the end of 1969, the reconstruction of Art. "Kirovskaya", where the middle section of the central hall 62.25 m long was built between the existing anterooms. In 1973, the northern and southern anterooms of st. "Dzerzhinskaya" were connected, and a full-fledged central hall appeared at the station, and by the opening of the central section of the Zhdanovsko-Krasnopresnenskaya line on December 17, 1975, a transition to the station was opened from the central hall of "Dzerzhinskaya". "Kuznetsky bridge". On November 7, 1974, the second passage between Prospekt Marksa and Ploshchad Sverdlova stations was also opened (with access to the end of the station "Ploshchad Sverdlova").
In 1971 a new general plan development of Moscow. According to it, the Kirovsko-Frunzenskaya line was to be extended in both directions: in the south-west, an extension was planned from st. "South-West" to Art. "Park named after the XXII Party Congress" and further beyond the Moscow Ring Road to the station near the South Station, which was promising at that time, in the northeast it was planned to branch from the station. "Preobrazhenskaya Square" into two branches. It should be clarified that at this time branchings were planned at the ends of many lines. One of the branches went through Cherkizovo along the Shchelkovskoye Highway to Golyanov, the second - to the Metrogorodok area along the Open Highway.
On October 25, 1983, the station was finally closed to passengers. "Lenin's mountains". By this time, the state of the metro bridge structures was in an emergency, the work on major repairs that had begun did not lead to the proper result. The station has been closed more than once, but the errors in the materials used during construction could not be corrected at the current site. Later, the escalator gallery was also closed. Trains passed through the station without stopping. In 1986–87 open bypass bridges were built, to which traffic was transferred from the station tracks.
On August 11, 1984, a significant part of the Frunzenskaya ground lobby was demolished by a directed explosion. The station was closed for only two days. The rest of the vestibule was subsequently built into the building of the Moscow Palace of Youth. August 25, 1986 Art. "Lermontovskaya" was renamed back to "Red Gate".
In the 80s, the prospective development of the line changed a little, so from the branching beyond the station. "Preobrazhenskaya Ploshchad" was abandoned (as were other branchings planned in 1971), the northeastern extension of the line from "Preobrazhenskaya Ploshchad" was supposed along Shchelkovskoye Highway to 4 stations (the names are conditional): "Cherkizovskaya" (with a transfer to the station Bolshaya Koltsevaya line), Kaloshino, Shchelkovskaya (with a transfer to the station of the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line) and Khabarovskaya. At the same time, it was decided to temporarily extend the Kirovsko-Frunzenskaya line along the promising route of the Big Ring (BKL) with the construction of two stations of the future BKL: Cherkizovskoy and Podbelsky Streets, and the Cherkizovo electric depot (also intended for service in the future BKL, but urgently needed at that moment for the Kirovsko-Frunzenskaya line, served by the only old and small-capacity electric depot TC-1 "Severnoye"). Plot from st. "Preobrazhenskaya Square" to the station. "Podbelsky Street" from the intermediate station. "Cherkizovskaya" and the electric depot TC-13 "Cherkizovo" was opened on August 3, 1990. On the stage in front of the station. "Cherkizovskaya" a reserve was created for the further planned extension of the line along the Shchelkovo highway, while the intersection of the connecting branch and the main tracks was built on the same level, thus further work section in the future became possible either in its current form, or in the form of an extension along the Shchelkovo highway, with the simultaneous cessation of passenger traffic on the section "Preobrazhenskaya Ploshchad" - "Cherkizovskaya" - "Podbelskogo Street".
In November 1990, a simultaneous large-scale renaming was carried out in the metro: the Kirovsko-Frunzenskaya line was named Sokolnicheskaya, st. "Okhotny Ryad" for the second time in its history returned its original name, art. "Kirovskaya" was renamed "Chistye Prudy" (at the same time, the "Myasnitskaya" option was rejected at the last moment), and Art. Dzerzhinskaya became Lubyanka. The renaming also affected other lines.
On May 12, 1999, a resolution was issued to rename the Art. "Lenin Hills" in "Sparrow Hills". On the carriage diagrams, the station was designated as being under construction since 1992, and before that - as operating, despite the closure in 1983. Officially, the station was considered temporarily closed for repairs, in reality, its structures were dismantled, trains ran along bypass bridges that were closed by that time corrugated sheets, and no construction works was not done. In 1999, the long-awaited reconstruction of the metro bridge began: the metro bridge was completely dismantled, with the exception of the two trusses of the main span, which were in a satisfactory condition, which were strengthened. In 2000, car traffic was opened on the upper tier, in 2001 a new station platform was built. On December 14, 2002, the new Vorobyovy Gory station was reopened to passengers. The station was completely rebuilt with a change in the structural scheme: from now on, only the structures of the platform and the automobile tier were kept on the main trusses of the metro bridge. The tracks were laid on two independent bridges, thus avoiding the inherently detrimental effect of dynamic loads on the main structure. The escalator gallery was not restored.
January 13, 2008 was opened the transition between Art. "Chistye Prudy" and opened on December 29, 2007 Art. "Sretensky Boulevard" of the Lublin Line.
On October 22, 2012, the driving of distillation tunnels from st. "South-West" to the station. "Troparevo", and in December - the disclosure of the pit st. Troparevo. In July 2013, the driving of distillation tunnels began from the station. "Troparevo" to the station. "Rumyantsevo", and in April 2014 - from the station. "Salaryevo" to the station. Rumyantsevo. The entire section of three stations was planned to be commissioned by the end of 2014, but by November 2014 only one station, Troparevo, was ready, the opening of two other stations was postponed to 2015.
On June 26, 2014, an order was issued to draw up a draft plan for the further extension of the Sokolnicheskaya line to the south. From Art. "Salaryevo" was proposed to extend the line to the areas of promising development at two stations: a station to the west of the Khovansky western cemetery, which later received the design name "Filatov Lug", and a station southwest of the Khovansky Pond.
On December 6, 2014, the section "Universitet" - "Yugo-Zapadnaya" was closed for reconfiguration of signaling systems, and on December 8, the section from the station. "South-West" to the station. Troparevo.
On December 29, 2015, a test train passed through the Troparevo - Salaryevo section. For passengers, the section was opened in two stages: on January 18, 2016, the station was opened. "Rumyantsevo", while the trains went without passengers to the station. "Salaryevo", where they turned around at dead ends. Salaryevo was opened on February 15, 2016 and became the 200th station of the Moscow Metro. The total operational length of the line has increased to 32.65 km.
Plans further development lines in 2015 changed twice: by the summer of 2015, an extension was planned not for 2, but for 5 stations: to the station. "Sosenki", transfer to the line to Kommunarka. However, already in November 2015, the materials of the project for amending the master plan of the city of Moscow in terms of the annexed territories were published, according to which the line beyond Art. "Salaryevo" was extended for only one station - "Filatov Lug". Also, the construction of the Salaryevo electric depot, which had already begun, was moved to a new site adjacent to the Salaryevo MSW landfill.
After opening in February 2016, Art. "Salaryevo" plans for further extension of the line to the areas of New Moscow changed in again. Now the line has again been designed to Kommunarka, but not to st. Sosenki, and to the other station of the line to Kommunarka - Stolbovo. The number of stations on the new section was again increased to five: Filatov Lug, Khovanskaya, Prokshino, Olkhovaya and Stolbovo. At the same time, at the time of designing, none of the prospective stations, with the exception of the last one, had a single multi-storey building within walking distance, that is, the route of the line was due to the future residential development of new microdistricts in the southwest. This solution was enshrined by the order of the Moscow Committee for Architecture No. 39 dated April 25, 2016 “On the preparation of a project for planning the territory of a linear facility - the extension of the Sokolnicheskaya line of the Moscow Metro from the territory of Salaryevo to the ADC Kommunarka”.
In July 2016, st. "Khovanskaya". Stations "Filatov Lug", "Prokshino" and "Olkhovaya" are designed as standard ground covered ones, located in the area of the Solntsevo - Butovo - Vidnoye highway, along its axis. Final st. "Stolbovo" is designed for shallow laying. On February 2, 2017, at a meeting of the Urban Planning and Land Commission of the city of Moscow, a draft plan for the line from st. "Salaryevo" to the station. Stolbovo with four stations was approved.

Secret lines of the Moscow metro in schemes, legends, facts Grechko Matvey
1. Sokolnicheskaya line
1. Sokolnicheskaya line
This is the first, oldest line of the Moscow metro. It is highlighted in red in the diagrams. Once it was very short: "from Sokolniki to the Park" and now it has 19 stations, and its length is more than 26 km. You can drive the entire line in 40 minutes.
It was from the Sokolniki station on May 15, 1935 that the first train with passengers in the history of the Moscow metro departed. The station got its name from the historical district of Moscow: in the 17th century, falconers lived here, who were engaged in catching and training birds for royal hunting, so beloved by Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich. This sovereign even wrote a treatise on hunting, a quote from which "Cause is time, and fun is an hour" became a proverb. "Sokolniki Park of Culture and Leisure" - this is the remains of the forest where the king hunted. Now, if hunting happens here, it is of a much more gloomy nature: like any park, Sokolniki is considered a problem area, sometimes atrocious crimes are committed there.
Krasnoselskaya station is located closest to the place where the first experimental sections of the future metro were laid. Its design name was "Gavrikova Street" - there really is one nearby, but the exit to it was never opened: the already built staircase rests on tightly locked doors.
The village, which gave the name of the station, was equipped and named "Red" - that is, beautiful, in the 15th century under Vasily the Dark, a prince with a very turbulent biography: he repeatedly lost the throne, seized it again and was even blinded by his enemies, which is why he received the nickname "Dark". However, already blind, he again managed to win back power and ruled for more than ten years.
Once there was a swamp, a pond and a vast field on which festivities: the last few centuries, Christian in honor of the Trinity Day, and before that - pagan mermaids. In the 17th century, it was from the side of Krasnoe Selo that False Dmitry I entered Moscow, and later, in the 18th century, the Red Pond was chosen by Peter to arrange the first festivities and fireworks in Russia. They were arranged in winter on the ice of the pond: in 1697 in honor of the capture of Azov, in 1699 in honor of the end of the war with the Turks, on January 28, 1722 in honor of the conclusion of peace with Sweden.
The station "Komsomolskaya" was named after the square of the same name, until the fifteenth anniversary of the creation of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League, it was called "Kalanchevskaya": there was a track station nearby royal palace with a high tower. The high tower also crowns the building of the Leningradsky railway station - aka Nikolaevsky or Oktyabrsky - the first station in Moscow. Its exact copy was erected in St. Petersburg for railway, the very one built in the 1840s by Count Kleinmichel and thousands of nameless workers, about which Vanya and his father talked in the famous poem by Nekrasov:
Chu! terrible exclamations were heard!
Stomp and gnashing of teeth;
A shadow ran over the frosty glass...
What's there? Crowd of the Dead!
“Red Gate” (“Lermontovskaya”) is so named because it was here in 1709 that the Triumphal Arch-Gate was erected to meet Russian troops returning after Battle of Poltava. Ordinary Muscovites called the magnificently decorated arch Red, that is, beautiful gates. Soon this name was officially approved, and in the 19th century they were even painted red. The gates were demolished in 1928, but the station architects tried to preserve their memory in the design of one of the vestibules, designing the entrance in the form of several concentric arches (architect Nikolai Ladovsky). The project of the station was awarded the Grand Prix at the International World Exhibition in Paris. The second loss associated with this place is the house in which he was born great poet Mikhail Lermontov. Once it stood on the site of the present - high-rise.
It is interesting
During the Great Patriotic War, the station was equipped with a command post for the leadership and operational dispatch apparatus of the People's Commissariat of Railways. In this regard, the station became a kind of ghost: trains did not stop at it, the platform was fenced off from the tracks with a high plywood wall. After the war, traces of this activity were destroyed for a long time.
The station "Chistye Prudy" in Soviet times was called "Kirovskaya" in honor of Sergei Mironovich Kirov, who was killed in 1934, on the eve of the launch of the first metro train. Before the construction of the transition to the Sretensky Bulvar station, a bronze bust of S. M. Kirov by Matvey Manizer was located near the end wall. This bust covered a low, inconspicuous door; it was believed that this was the entrance to an underground bunker dug during the war. Now the bust is in the transition from the Sretensky Bulvar station to the Turgenevskaya station.
Initially, "Kirovskaya" did not have a central room, only two short entrance halls were located at the exits for the transition between the tracks; in 1971 it was reconstructed into a three-vaulted one. In 1947, fluorescent lamps were installed at the station - for the first time in the Moscow Metro.
During the Great Patriotic War, there were departments on Kirovskaya General Staff and air defense of the country. The station was chosen because of its depth - 35 meters!
Now the station is named after Chistye Prudy, to which it goes. Until 1703, these reservoirs were called Pogany and served as a drain for the waste of meat slaughterhouses located nearby. AT early XVIII century, this area was bought by Menshikov, the ponds were cleaned and since then they have become known as Chistye. Now on the site of the Menshikov estate is the Main Post Office, built in 1912. From the estate, the church in Basmanny Lane, nicknamed the Menshikov Tower, has been preserved; it is the earliest surviving building of the Petrine baroque in Moscow, and many legends are associated with it.
In 1723, lightning struck the tower, and the fire completely destroyed the upper wooden part and brought down the bells. For more than half a century, the church stood decapitated, until the freemason Gabriel Izmailov took up its restoration. Since then, the building has been used for a long time for Masonic meetings and was restored as a temple only in 1863, when, by order of Metropolitan Philaret, occult symbols and sayings were erased from the walls.
"Lubyanka" (former "Dzerzhinsky Square") is also laid deep - 32.5 meters underground. When it opened, the station did not have a central hall, but was completely rebuilt in the 1970s.
The station and the square of the same name owe their name to settlers from Novgorod, who settled here under Ivan III and at the end of the 15th century. They named the area in memory of the old Novgorod street Lubyanitsa. In 1926-1990, the metro station was called differently: "Dzerzhinsky Square". It lies next to the terrible basements of the Lubyanka, and suspicious people claim that "the black energy emanating from the dungeons of the bloody gebni" has a strong negative effect on metro passengers. Perhaps that is why it is here that the highest number of suicides is recorded.
It is interesting
During the construction of this station, water suddenly rushed into the face. No matter how much pressure was built up in the caissons, it did not help, the water continued to flow. And then archaeologists came to the aid of the metro builders and explained the reason: there was once a tower in the construction area, from which only the cellars have survived. Rainwater accumulated in them for centuries, so it poured into the face. “As soon as this supply runs out, the flow will stop,” the archaeologists assured. And so it happened.
In March 2010, early in the morning, a terrorist act took place at the Lubyanka station. An explosion in a train car claimed the lives of twenty-three people, dozens were injured.
An explosion-proof container, or an anti-bomb safe, is an important attribute of the security system of any subway. The container is a cylindrical box made of thick armored steel. Such safes can be seen on the platforms of the stations, but they are usually removed in the back rooms.
When an explosive device or suspicious object is found, a security officer or sapper must place the suspected bomb in this container, which can, if not withstand, then significantly mitigate almost any explosion. In it, the "bomb" is taken to the landfill. Now there are such containers at all stations of the Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and other metros.
The station "Okhotny Ryad" (formerly "Prospect Marx" and "Station named after Lazar Kaganovich") until 1938 was a "fork": from it the trains went alternately, then to the "Library named after Lenin", then to the "Comintern" (now "Alexandrovsky garden"). After the separation of the Arbat radius into an independent line, a significant segment of the underground tunnel was no longer used, during the construction shopping center under Manezhnaya it was half covered.
The name "Okhotny Ryad" comes from the street (formerly the square), where in the 18th-19th centuries, hunters' prey - dead game and birds - were traded in shops. At the time of construction, Okhotny Ryad was the world's largest deep-laid station; it was not even originally planned to erect a central hall there.
"Library named after Lenin" is named after the old Soviet name the Russian state library. This is one of the first two metro interchange stations and the largest interchange hub in the city.
From the history
In the bowels of the Borovitsky and Vagankovsky hills, there are many old buildings. The entire space between the stations “Library named after Lenin”, “Borovitskaya”, “Alexander Garden”, “Teatralnaya” and “Revolution Square” is pitted with passages dating back more than one hundred years. Stations of the first stage of the metro - a shallow foundation - are adjacent to the remains of medieval prisons, where disgraced boyars and unfortunate non-paying debtors were kept.
These prisons and passages have been known for a long time. Back in 1894, in an article in Novoye Vremya, the author, who signed with the initials M.I.P., mentioned them: crossings, of which seven are covered, and two are repaired and not blocked. […] In the last fifty years of this century, this is where gaps were observed and hiding places were discovered: one of these was marked on the road against the right corner of the eastern wall of the Archangel Cathedral near the sidewalk that goes along the ridge of the mountain. Another failure occurred in the square opposite the large palace in the first year of its construction. […] In the fifties, in the yard where the golden company is located, a failure was also discovered. In 1860, an ancient dwelling and several rooms were opened in the Synodal Court, a stove was found here with coals left over from the furnace. […] Then, in the same years, a similar cache was found in the ground at the Poteshnoy Dvor.”
"Kropotkinskaya" (the former "Palace of Soviets") until 1957 was named after a never-built skyscraper with a giant figure of Lenin on the roof. The metro station hall was conceived as an underground vestibule of the Palace; its construction began in 1939, but was interrupted before the war. And during the war, the metal frame of the already built seven floors of the building was used for the manufacture of anti-tank hedgehogs. Later, the abandoned pit was used for the Moskva swimming pool. At the same time, the station was renamed after the former Kropotkinsky Gate Square (now Prechistensky Gate Square), named after Pyotr Alekseevich Kropotkin, an anarchist theorist who was born in this area. The place here is interesting, with a rich history, we will tell you more about it later.
Alexey Dushkin:
“My architectural credo is the Kropotkinskaya station. When creating her project, she had to turn to the annals of Egyptian underground architecture. The top of the columns, illuminated by oil slabs in the underground labyrinths of the pyramids, was taken as the basis for the constructive solution. It reflects the functional reality with which it must correspond.
The project of the station was awarded the Grand Prix of international exhibitions in Paris (1937) and Brussels (1935), as well as the Stalin Prize for architecture and construction (1941).
The Park Kultury station was named after the Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure, even though it is located on the opposite bank of the Moskva River. Until 1957, it was the terminus on this metro line.

In 1934, for the sake of facing stone, the white-stone Serpukhov Kremlin of the 16th century was purposefully dismantled - an impregnable fortress that withstood numerous sieges and did not surrender to the Poles in Time of Troubles. The stone from which it was built was used to finish the stations of the Sokolnicheskaya line from Sokolniki to Park Kultury and several stations of the Filevskaya line. They say that Serpukhovskaya station, opened in 1983, also got a few stones.
Now the branch has been significantly extended, it goes from the Bogorodskoye district in the east (Podbelsky Street station) to the South-West, crossing the most interesting historical districts of the city: Bogorodskoye, Cherkizovo, Preobrazhenskoye ... The same village of Preobrazhenskoye, where the queen lived after the death of Alexei Mikhailovich Natalya Kirillovna with her son Peter. Here the future tsar started his amusing regiments, one of which he called Preobrazhensky, and built a "fun town" - the fortress "Pressburg". Poteshny remained in Preobrazhenskoye even after 1689.
A few decades later, during the reign of Anna Ioannovna, Old Believers-schismatics settled here. They secretly gathered in Preobrazhenskoe for worship, buried their dead at the local cemetery.
At the opposite end of the branch, the places are no less remarkable. At the station "Sportivnaya" there is a free People's Museum of the metro, which contains samples of retro technology, documents and old photographs.

The Moscow Metro Museum was founded in 1967 by enthusiastic veterans. Aged subway builders carried their photographs, letters, documents to the museum. Then other large museums and libraries took part in replenishing the funds, they transferred obsolete equipment that was decommissioned, dividing them according to the topics: “The Metropolitan during the Great Patriotic War: transport and bomb shelter”, “The Metropolitan as an architectural monument”, “The Commonwealth of Russian Metros , CIS countries and other countries of the world. Entrance to the museum is free. There are similar museums in other cities, for example, in St. Petersburg.
The Luzhnetsky metro bridge, built in a hurry in record time - in 19 months, became the talk of the town among journalists. The haste and the cost-saving course announced by Nikita Khrushchev caused the bridge to quickly collapse due to a violation of technology. Instead of becoming a symbol of the triumph of Soviet engineering and a miracle of technology, the bridge turned into proof of soviet mismanagement. It was erected in a frosty winter and, in order to prevent the freezing of water, which is part of concrete, in huge quantities salt was added to it. As a result, in the first season of operation, the bridge began to crack, and in July 1959, the station hall was completely flooded with water and mud. A year later, an aluminum cornice collapsed in the lobby. A survey in 1963 confirmed the general pre-accident condition of the bridge, and it was forced to close. The Vorobyovy Gory station located on the bridge became a “ghost station” for 19 years. By the way, this is the world's first platform located on the metro bridge.
urban legend
After the reconstruction of the station, due to problems with technical calculations and lack of funding, a unique escalator was not restored, which previously allowed passengers to climb from the southern exit of the station to Kosygin Street. The non-functioning lift immediately gave rise to a lot of rumors, and the people called it the "killer escalator", although no accidents occurred there.
It is interesting
The station "Vorobyovy Gory" is the longest in the Moscow Metro (282 meters) and the most "dangerous", since there is no tray on the tracks and a person who has fallen on the rails has nowhere to hide. The longest station in the world is one of the stations in the center of Chicago. The length of its underground hall is 1.1 km, an island-type platform 6.7 meters wide is connected to eight vestibules. Three trains can be accommodated along it.
Popular rumor stubbornly claims that on the red line there is a gate - a passage - to the mysterious secret Metro-2, and the "University" station duplicates the second station with the same name, intended for defense purposes.
