How to pass the selection process. Vocational selection in a military school: questions, psychological tests
Very many people are frightened by the mere mention of the draft board, since in Russia the conscription for military service is mandatory. This means that every man who has reached the age of majority receives a call to the military registration and enlistment office to check his state of health and assess his suitability for service.
And if you are fit, then no one asks you whether you want to serve or not, no one checks what plans you made for the coming years. You go to serve without question. That is why many in one way or another try to avoid a visit to the draft board.
However, this is not true for everyone - there are people who want to enter military school or serve in the rank of officer, and then they themselves voluntarily go to undergo a professional selection in the military registration and enlistment office. What it is? This article will be devoted to this topic. Professional selection in the military registration and enlistment office is a rather relevant topic on the Internet, with which many controversial issues are associated.
What is a profile selection?
Professional selection in the military enlistment office is a set of examinations that are carried out to determine whether a person is suitable for serving in an officer rank or for entering a military institute to study military affairs and further serve in high ranks.
As you can already understand, privates are recruited by mandatory conscription, but those who want to serve in a more respectful rank pass through the professional selection. Therefore, if this is your goal, then you need to know what professional selection is in the military registration and enlistment office. And on the Internet, unfortunately, there is too much information on this topic that can mislead you.
Major misconceptions
In the network, people most often look for information about how the professional selection in the military registration and enlistment office takes place. And almost always they find that this process consists in passing an extensive test that reveals the psychological and psychophysical characteristics of a potential officer. No, you actually have to pass such a test, but it does not represent a professional selection as a whole - this is only a small part of it. In addition, the network can be found great amount a variety of tests that are offered to pass in order to find out your result and be able to correct it before going to the real test at the military registration and enlistment office.
But if you want to know how to pass the professional selection in the military registration and enlistment office, then you need to go the other way. You can take the risk and pay a hefty sum to get a supposedly original aptitude test, but in most cases it will be no different from those that are publicly available, and the person who sold it to you will turn out to be a scammer. Therefore, you need to prepare yourself - and not try to deceive the system, because the truth will eventually come out anyway.
Components of professional selection
So, what, in general, is a professional selection in the military registration and enlistment office for This is a complex procedure that includes three stages. As mentioned above, one of them is a psychological test that determines your mental abilities, the basic character traits required for a leadership position in the army, and so on. After that, a medical examination follows, followed by field tests, which are a series of tests that combine physical and psychological stress.
First stage
The first stage is psychological, and you can study exemplary tests in order to pass a professional selection at the military registration and enlistment office. The answers, however, you will not be able to find - they are likely to be also false.
Tests also include a variety of questions that describe certain situations. For example, you will be asked if you quit the business you started, if you like to correct people's mistakes, and so on. In some cases, it is quite easy to understand what answer must be given in order to receive desired result, in other cases it will not be so easy.
However, anyway, you'd better answer honestly, because you can use the trick to try to cheat the test, giving not the answers that come to your mind, but those that the committee would like to hear. But this is a road to nowhere, because, firstly, it will be very difficult to cheat the test, and secondly, during the officer’s service or officer training, it will still be revealed that you do not have the necessary character traits.
Second phase
The second stage is an extensive medical examination, the purpose of which is to identify any health problems that could prevent you from serving. Please note that you will not be allowed to the medical examination if you do not pass the first stage, that is, the aptitude test.
Of course, one can try to challenge the decision of the commission, but it is extremely rare for anyone to prove that he is actually psychologically fit to serve in his chosen position when the tests showed the opposite. When the medical examination is left behind, the last test will await you.
Third stage
The last stage includes field tests, which serve as a test not only of your physical abilities, but also of your psychological stability. This means that the tests will be carried out in critical and extreme conditions, and you will need to make quick and correct decisions in these conditions, that is, to do exactly what distinguishes a real officer from an ordinary private.
Russians entering the contract service got the opportunity to take an online aptitude test - on the website of the Ministry of Defense. the site learned from psychologists what qualities of the future professional military it should reveal.
The psychological test of the Ministry of Defense consists of three parts. Before passing it, the respondent is asked to answer several questions about education and place of residence.
The first part asks you to choose one of the answer options. As reported in the description of the test, tasks require "certain knowledge, attention and ingenuity." You have 15 minutes to complete. This part, according to the general opinion of psychologists, is a standard test for intelligence.
In the second part, the respondent is asked to indicate his attitude to a number of statements concerning certain aspects of behavior, character and well-being. For example, decide whether the statement "There have been times when I did not keep my promises" or "Many of those whom I know deserve punishment" is true. At the same time, the time for completing the task is not limited.
"Since a person is almost always in a social environment, his activity is associated with the ability to build relationships with other people. Test No. 2 helps to determine the level of communication skills, neuropsychic stability, the general emotional state or emotionally negative state of a person, the level of socialization, an assessment of one's own places and roles in the team, the presence of a desire to comply with generally accepted norms of behavior," the specialist in the direction applied psychology Andrey Sergeev.
He added that in this part of the test, it is possible to determine the respondent's adaptive abilities, signs of obvious accentuations (character traits in which some of his traits are excessively enhanced) and psychopathy, and in some cases characterize his condition as borderline. In addition, according to certain responses of a soldier, one can identify his tendency to use alcohol and psychoactive substances.
As the specialist of the advisory and clinical psychology Alena Pavlova, the second test performs the functions personality questionnaire aimed at character traits. Thus, depending on the answers, the candidate's leadership qualities, self-esteem, desire for power, attitude to the law, punctuality and accuracy, depression, anxiety, and personality type (extroversion-introversion) can be identified. According to the interlocutor of the agency, a calm and balanced applicant, who does not have obvious addictions to alcohol and conflicts, is most suitable for military service.
Curiously, in some cases, for example, with the prevailing number of identical answers in the second part of the test, the message “Most likely, you took the test lightly, which casts doubt on the sincerity of your desire to serve in the Armed Forces Russian Federation. Thank you for your participation!". This ends the testing.
Applicants who have reached the third part are offered a series of statements regarding views on military service and the world habits and daily behavior. The task is to choose the most suitable option for the candidate personally or complete the approval.
The last test, according to psychologists, analyzes motivational preferences and helps to determine the dominant factors in choosing a profession, and also shows life strategies. professional self-determination respondent.
Self-testing of the applicant using the website of the Russian Ministry of Defense is included in the initial selection of a candidate for military service by contact. In total, the process of selecting candidates for military service under the contract includes three stages: initial, preliminary and in-depth selection.
Tests for determining professional suitability for entering military service under a contract were developed by the Scientific and Practical Center of the Military Academy General Staff Armed Forces.
By the age of 18, a young person seeks to choose a profession based on his wishes, ideas about his capabilities, abilities and character traits. For this reason, "professional psychological selection"(PPO) in the military commissariat is directly related to the life plans of a particular young man and is a serious comprehensive examination.
We suggest you relax a little and go through the "".
What are the tasks of professional psychological selection?
AT general view The tasks of PPO can be defined as identifying stable basic psychological properties characteristic of a conscript and correlating them with professionally important qualities that are required for successful military service in military positions (“command”, “operator”, “communications and surveillance”, “driver”, " special purpose”, “technological”).The personal properties of a conscript are studied to clarify his suitability for training in a particular military specialty. The study is conducted in three main areas: psychological, socio-psychological and psycho-physiological.
Socio-psychological study is aimed mainly at identifying psychological reasons possible difficulties in adapting the conscript to military service and difficulties in communication. Therefore, in order to successfully solve the problems of PPO, it is important for a psychologist to know which qualities of a person are subject to change, and which are relatively stable. The most "conservative" are those qualities that are due to heredity. Many researchers believe that personality traits change throughout a person's life, but only to a certain extent. The main ones are formed during childhood and adolescence. Wherein cognitive processes are determined by hereditary factors by about 70%, and personal qualities - by 50%. Otherwise, environmental factors influence, including the influence of the family, the extra-family environment, social and domestic components, and directed educational and educational impact. According to researchers, the dependence of personality traits on genetic factors is as follows: the desire for emotional and social openness - 33%, caution, rationality - 43%, aggressiveness, hostility - 48%, restraint, balance - 51%, optimism - 54%, instability to stress - 55%, conservatism - 60%, desire for leadership - 61%. Such a distribution gives the psychologist an idea of the possible features of the character and behavior of the examined conscript in dynamics.
Based on the results of the PPO, the psychologist makes one of the following conclusions about the suitability of the conscript for specific military posts: Category I - recommended in the first place, fully meets the requirements of the chosen specialty; II category - basically corresponds; Category III - minimally complies and is allowed with a lack of candidates; IV category - does not correspond and is not recommended for training in this specialty.
The results of PPO obtained in the military registration and enlistment office are used in the subsequent distribution of military personnel in training formations and military units.
The principle of ethics is one of the most important aspects of PPO, it follows from generally recognized human rights: a psychologist in the military commissariat uses the information received only for official purposes and does not allow disclosure. The conclusion about professional suitability for service in certain military positions is reported to the subject in a conversation with him, but at the same time, the narrow focus of the assessment on specific military specialties and in a specific period of time is emphasized. It is important that a negative conclusion is not seen as a sentence of complete professional unsuitability and as a general negative assessment of a person. In general, conducting PES is a rather delicate process, during which the psychologist needs to create an atmosphere of openness, goodwill and trust.
Examination methods
Testing in the military commissariat is carried out using a test battery, which includes: "S-test" - a graphic subtest for assessing visual perception, attention, the ability to identify objects in a limited time; "Brief orientation test» (CAT) to assess general cognitive abilities; "Questionnaire of military aptitude" (WFP) to determine the general focus on military service, as well as on individual military specialties (command, operator, communications and surveillance, driver, technological and special purposes); questionnaire "Forecast" - to further clarify the neuropsychic stability of the conscript and to assess the likelihood of neuropsychic breakdowns. In general, testing gives the most general characteristics personality of the conscript, his emotional and cognitive sphere.Before testing, the psychologist conducts an introductory briefing, after which it is necessary to make sure that all the tasks are understood correctly and that the motivation of the examined recruits is constructive, otherwise the study does not make sense. In rare cases, there is no such motivation (refusal of testing or a frivolous attitude on the part of individual subjects is possible), then the psychologist faces the task of motivating recruits to conduct an examination. In a number of cases, those subjects who had to be motivated additionally had higher test results than the rest. However, it is difficult to say unequivocally whether the focus on military service really increased or the phenomenon of positive self-representation manifested itself: it is possible that the psychologist became a reference person for these subjects. Another problem - a misunderstanding of the meaning of the questions or the difficulty with their interpretation - arises in cases where the subjects are embarrassed to turn to a psychologist for clarification.
An individual interview is conducted with each recruit in a free form and is aimed at identifying sustainable professional interests, abilities and personal qualities. Prior to the conversation, it is advisable for the psychologist to familiarize himself with the documents of the conscript and note those facts that require attention or clarification. During the interview, questions are asked in random order regarding neuropsychic stability, military aptitude and general cognitive abilities. Efficiency is largely determined by the ability of the psychologist to win over the interlocutor: he must feel sincere interest in himself; it is unacceptable to build a conversation in the form of an interrogation. It is important to remember that the task of a psychologist is not only to get an answer, but also to have a positive impact on the interlocutor, since his attitude to military service is still being formed, and any detail can be significant, especially for emotive personalities. The structure of the conversation is approximately the following: the introductory part - establishing contact, creating a trusting atmosphere, if necessary - relieving situational tension; the main part is obtaining the information necessary for the PPO; the final part is the clarification of the most important details. During the conversation, it is desirable to identify how a young person is able to realistically assess their abilities and capabilities: self-esteem, in addition to being adequate, may be overestimated or underestimated. Inflated self-esteem is manifested in excessive self-confidence, boastfulness, frequent "yakane"; low self-esteem is accompanied by insecurity, frustration, shyness, anxiety.
Observation of the behavior of the examined conscript in the course of the PPO includes an assessment of motor skills, various emotional manifestations, individual statements, as well as a targeted analysis of behavior in order to detect individual psychological characteristics of the individual. Thus, observation provides additional information about the character, thinking, level of development. It is established whether the young person easily enters into a conversation, how he understands the questions, how logical and adequate the answers are, whether he is great vocabulary, what is the speed, correctness and expressiveness of speech. Behavioral features are fixed and analyzed: the young man is restrained or demonstrative, whether he is sensitive, timid, cheeky, fussy, how vegetative-vascular reactions are expressed.
In the process of observation, single signs of insufficient intelligence and low cognitive abilities are fixed: a young man asks questions that are not relevant (sometimes ridiculous), bewilderment, confusion are written on his face, answers to questions demonstrate primitive judgments, during testing he makes attempts to write down the instructions of a psychologist ask a neighbor for clarification.
Separate signs of a low focus on service and a decrease in discipline can appear in remarks during PPO, noisy behavior, elements of buffoonery, and familiarity. Sometimes appear external signs emotional instability: changes in facial expressions, anxiety, preoccupation, muscle tension, jerky movements, hoarseness or stuttering, questions and answers that are overly emotionally colored.
Observation also helps to identify the "best" candidates for the service: they do not ask unnecessary questions, perform tasks calmly and independently, follow instructions clearly and quickly, and respond adequately to the circumstances.
The result of the PPO is a comprehensive conclusion on the professional suitability of the conscript, which integrates the level of general cognitive abilities, neuropsychic stability and military professional orientation.
Assessment of General Cognitive Ability (GCE)
This is the simplest link in the PPO procedure, since the test data and conversations give fairly clear results that do not depend on the sincerity of the subject. In case of doubt, the psychologist asks additional questions on the topics of the OPS. The purpose of an additional examination may be to identify individuals with increased fatigue with minor test loads or with a lack of basic knowledge school curriculum. In some cases, conscripts have a misunderstanding of such concepts as "percentage", "radius", "root"; some subjects do not read fiction and popular science literature, they poorly understand the meaning of proverbs, fables, sayings. This is mainly characteristic of young people from families with pedagogically incompetent parents, in which the general cultural level is lowered.Most conscripts during the examination show a normal level of OPS. However, a common phenomenon is an insufficient vocabulary, the use of speech stamps, primitive statements and illogical judgments. In addition, the subjects may read inattentively, do not fully understand the meaning of the questions, and interpret them incorrectly at a completely normal level of OPS, therefore, in the course of the conversation, it is advisable to make sure that the questions are understood correctly.
Neuropsychiatric Resilience Assessment (NPU)
It is carried out with the aim of early detection of states of mental maladaptation, which are characterized by a tendency to disrupt an adequate response in conditions of emotional stress.This is the main direction of psychological examination in the military commissariat during the PPO.
Diagnosis of NPU is a difficult task, since it is always difficult to determine whether the signs of instability shown are a feature of the personality of a young person or a reaction to an unfamiliar environment. The level of NPU is not an absolutely stable property forever given to a person; is a combination of innate and influenced external environment personality traits.
When conducting PPO, the psychologist focuses on 4 levels of NPU: high - meets the increased requirements for mental health; good - neuropsychic breakdowns are unlikely; satisfactory - breakdowns are likely with significant mental and physical activity, in extreme situations; unsatisfactory - high probability of breakdowns, signs of mental instability.
Negative signs revealed in the process of PPO can be: poor relationships in the family and the team, the prevalence of depressed or unreasonably high spirits, obsessive thoughts and movements, difficult experiences even for minor reasons, fluctuations in the emotional background, excessive anxiety, lack of friendly contacts, non-compliance with generally accepted norms of behavior, hypochondria, frequent conflicts with others and others. It is important to distinguish in a timely manner an antisocial personality type, which has no problems with NPD, from a personality type with a clearly reduced social adaptation and a low level of NPD.
When diagnosing NPU, the correct understanding of the issues should be the subject of close attention of the psychologist. So, the misunderstanding of the subjects is caused by the phrases: “depressed mood”, “doomed person”; the particle "not" is skipped; the meaning of the statement "My hands are dexterous" is interpreted as a tendency to steal.
An equally serious task is to design the survey in such a way as to get sincere, truthful answers. To this end, it is advisable for the psychologist to ask questions in a hidden form or indirectly, for example: “How do you feel about participating in street fights and scandals?” The reason for insincere answers may be the desire to give socially desirable answers, to show oneself with the best side; conformism, expressed in a subconscious desire to follow "generally accepted standards"; demonstrative personality, if you want to get the approval of a psychologist or show your exclusivity. At the same time, absolutely sincere answers can be caused by complete indifference to the survey and indicate a lack of constructive motivation among the subjects. In testing the NPU, a scale of sincerity is provided, which provides additional information. If there is any doubt about the correctness of the diagnosis, the psychologist should ask clarifying questions. In general, the NPU of the majority of conscripts is at a good level.
Assessment of the military professional orientation (VPN)
It provides for the distribution of recruits for specific military specialties, and also allows you to get an idea of the focus on military service in general. The high orientation of the conscript is evidenced by positive attitude to the service, the desire to acquire a specific specialty during its passage, the presence of a certain life strategy and a real goal. The majority of conscripts who have passed PPO events are ready to serve far from home and are sympathetic to the need to obey in accordance with military regulations.Individual conscripts (having a negative experience of socialization in the family and educational institutions or prone to hypochondria) expressed an anxious and negative attitude towards the service, which may make it difficult for them to contact during the service. That is why on this stage it is important for a psychologist to identify personal-emotional deviations and facts of pedagogical neglect. An unwillingness to serve and learn specific specialties, as well as a negative attitude towards the need for subordination, may indicate a low orientation to the service. This is also evidenced by a frivolous attitude to the examination, violations of the norms of behavior at the time of the examination, complete passivity in relation to one's own destiny (such a young man most often does not work anywhere and does not study). Negative signs are also: low discipline, high conflict, irresponsibility, lack of real life plans. In all of the above cases, the psychologist, in addition to fixing the level of TPN, is faced with the task of conducting a career-guidance conversation that increases the motivation and orientation of the conscript, taking into account his individual features. At the same time, a negative assessment of the conscript's personal characteristics and any criticism addressed to him should be completely excluded from the side of the psychologist: only a benevolent attitude can help, and not “labeling”.
Separately, the focus of the conscript on specific military specialties is assessed: he will feel more comfortable and will be able to fully express himself where motivation is optimal. Of course, in addition to motivation, a psychologist needs to take into account objective data: mastering a similar civilian specialty, health status, characteristics from a place of work or study, and personal characteristics.
Discipline, organizational skills, work experience in managerial positions, as well as pronounced leadership qualities testify to the high focus on specialties of the "team" class. Conscripts prone to passive behavior and submission should not be sent to such positions. Low orientation can be confirmed by documents from the place of work or study, in which the characteristic "slave member of the team", "subject to someone else's influence" is found; information that, with good academic performance, such young people are poor organizers and are not able to be responsible for the result of collective activity.
The focus on "operator" military specialties demonstrates the presence of similar civilian specialties (programmer, computer operator, corrector, etc.), high academic performance in mathematics, computer science, skills in working with electronic equipment and the ability to monotonous activity. Negative data is restlessness, the predominance of choleric temperament, excitability, as well as awkwardness and poor coordination.
The focus on the "special purpose" class is characterized by success in those sports that develop coordination of movements (all types of wrestling, swimming, team sports, etc.), as well as a tendency to bold actions, overcoming a sense of danger. In addition, the performance of duties in this military specialty requires high volitional qualities. Negative data for such a specialty is the lack of inclination to power and mobile sports, apathy, low physical and motor data, as well as increased compliance in interpersonal and intragroup relationships.
The professional focus on "driving" and "technological" military specialties, in addition to similar civilian specialties (driver, crane operator, tractor driver, mechanic, car mechanic, etc.), is characterized by a tendency to repair and manage equipment. In the characteristics from the places of study, there may be indications of low academic performance in technical disciplines, there may be no expressed interest in their civilian specialty, for example, during a conversation with a conscript, a complete lack of interest in technical specialties and basic repair skills. For this reason, the psychologist should study in detail the abilities and inclinations, and not just focus on the presence of a similar professional education.
PPO acquires particular relevance because professional selection was often not carried out before military service, and therefore the professional and social adaptation of a young person can be significantly complicated. In a number of cases, a psychologist in a military registration and enlistment office has to deal with pedagogical neglect, with a violation of normal relations in the family and school. At the same time, PPO does not divide people into “bad” and “good”, but shows a picture of the socio-psychological distribution of the younger generation, which is of interest not only to the army, but also to society as a whole.
Contract service is not just a job. A contract serviceman is a professional defender of the Motherland.
At present, the most important line of activity of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation is the improvement of the system for manning the Armed Forces with privates and sergeants.
The main priority in this work is the unconditional advantage of qualitative characteristics over quantitative ones, which implies an increase in the number of contract professionals in the Armed Forces. In accordance with the instruction of the President of the Russian Federation, the number of soldiers, sailors, sergeants and foremen serving under a contract in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation by January 1, 2017 will amount to 425 thousand people.
For the purpose of timely and high-quality implementation of the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has developed the main approaches to recruiting troops (forces) with military personnel under the contract.
The recruitment of troops (forces) by contract servicemen is based on a rigid multi-level system of selection of candidates, mandatory sending them to training in training centers or universities for the preparation and subsequent conclusion of contracts, as well as a multi-stage system of military service, which, depending on qualifications, provides for the professional growth of contract servicemen.
Algorithm for selecting candidates for military service under a contract
The process of selecting candidates for military service under the contract includes three stages: initial, preliminary and in-depth selection.
The staged study of candidates provides for the use of the capabilities of the selection point itself, the mobile selection point (after it has been delivered to the Armed Forces), military commissariats (including their municipal departments) and military units.
However, an in-depth study is carried out only at selection points with the involvement of the capabilities of the military commissariat of the constituent entity of the Russian Federation (military medical commissions, professional psychological selection groups). At the same time, municipal departments of military commissariats (more than 2,000) are involved in connection with the significant remoteness of the places of residence of candidates from the selection points.
The initial selection includes:
First, self-testing of the candidate using the website of the Russian Ministry of Defense. The tests were developed by the scientific and practical center of the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces.
Secondly, conducting an interview, testing a candidate at a mobile selection point (during his work in the field).
Preliminary selection is carried out by the municipal department of the military commissariat of the constituent entity of the Russian Federation in the event of a significant remoteness of the candidate's place of residence from the selection point. In this case, the candidate arrives at the municipal department on his own or in the direction of a mobile selection point.
Pre-selection includes:
military professional orientation;
filling out a formalized document (application form);
study and verification of the personal data of the candidate and his reliability (citizenship, characteristics from the place of work and study, the results of requests to law enforcement agencies, the study of the state of health according to the medical book from the clinic);
preliminary medical examination (by an emergency medical commission);
preliminary professional psychological selection at the appropriate workstation.
The results obtained during the preliminary stage are sent to the selection point for subsequent in-depth selection and study.
Initial and preliminary selection can also be carried out in a military unit.
An in-depth (final) selection is carried out at the selection point in relation to all candidates who have passed the preliminary selection or candidates who independently arrived at the selection point, in case of their relatively close residence.
Deep selection includes:
study and verification of the personal data of the candidate and his reliability;
in-depth medical examination;
in-depth professional psychological selection;
physical fitness check;
formation of the personal file of the candidate;
registration, if necessary, of access to information constituting a state secret.
The selection is completed by making a decision on the suitability of the candidate for military service under the contract and sending him to the training unit to conclude a contract and undergo the necessary training.
Prior to amendments to the legislation, the decision is made by the commission of the military commissariat of the constituent entity of the Russian Federation, and in the future - by the commission of the personnel department of the military district.
Depending on the scarcity for the Armed Forces of the candidate's civic education and military training, the place of his residence, as well as the frequency of training periods in training parts, from the moment the selection begins to the decision to accept a candidate for military service under a contract and send him to an educational military unit can take from 1-2 weeks to 6 months.
With regard to military personnel who complete military service by conscription and have expressed a desire to enter military service under a contract, the selection algorithm differs in that the initial and preliminary stages (if appropriate resources are available) are carried out in advance in the military unit, followed by sending all the results to the selection point ( in the relevant subject of the Russian Federation), where a decision is made on the candidate.
