Is it possible to live in a small town. Life with a child in a small town: dullness, wretchedness, melancholy
Small, but still a city. What are the pros and cons of living there? Both positive and negative in the life of a small town, of course, there is. Everyone will choose for themselves.
Negative in a small town
How many young people are leaving towns, towns and villages for big cities, to the capitals? Uncountable. They are repelled in the town:
- There is simply "nowhere to turn around." You can usually get around the town on foot. Everything is familiar, familiar, uninteresting. There is no metropolitan scale, expensive shops, various events, big money, usually there are few foreigners. And the habits of local residents are often provincial, their horizons seem limited, and their way of life is boring.
- Probably, because of this monotony, gossip is loved here. Everyone knows everything about everyone. Even if one passer-by does not recognize the other, then usually the “face is familiar” anyway. And if you talk, it turns out that there is definitely some kind of connection. For example, at different times, but worked in the same office, or relatives know each other, or garages nearby. Something is bound to be found. It is difficult to hide something here - and joys and problems are discussed by the whole city. Often, residents of small towns tend to discuss and judge others. In general, there is no solitude to be found here.
- Familiar here and every house. Somewhere they went to a notary, and here Aunt Glasha lives, and there is a history teacher. There is nothing unexpected. Everyone knows that in the evening everyone walks along the embankment, and in the morning there is still a traffic jam in the center.
- Discos, sports clubs, cafes - everything is inferior to the capital. The parks of a small town do not compare with those of the capital, as well as the roads. Yes, and fashion comes here when it already leaves big cities. There is a sense of secondary.
- AT big city more prospects, interesting people. There is more peace in the countryside.
The main problem of a small town is that he's petty in every way. If a person has already left the countryside, has torn himself away, as they say, from nature, then isn’t it better to live in a big city with all the conveniences? And the town is neither here nor there. Something in between.
However, some who left for great happiness from a small town are returning. Big prospects are often deceptive; in fact, a person in pursuit of a "carrot" becomes a cog in a large mechanism. They return to the town and find their happiness here.
Positive in a small town
After all, you can look at all the cons from the other side. Is everything familiar? It's not bad at all. Each house has its own story, each person is almost native. And if there is not quite good people who spread gossip out of harm, so everyone around knows that they are just gossips. And they don't take them seriously.
That is, even if a person may not behave very well, get excited or remain indifferent, joke badly and much more, then they simply know about it. And who is warned! .. Moreover, in a small town it is easier to find help and support from people, here they will not pass by, but they will not particularly “crawl into the soul”. In a big city, there are always surprises, more often unpleasant ones. But even with the village, where everyone enters every house and there is no culture, one cannot compare the town. Small town occupies the golden mean!
People in small towns are not that sincere and unsophisticated rednecks, but also no fussy cynics from the capital. Here, the inhabitants are not overgrown with a "scab", they do not run, paying no attention to anyone, in their super important matters. They do not have to stand in traffic jams, push in the subway, be under the constant influence of advertising, in constant stress.
In a metropolis, you can live in an apartment for years, but not get to know the people next door. In the capitals, locals do not have time to attend concerts and exhibitions, visitors from small towns do it for them. There are also no annoying tourists in the town who chat in incomprehensible languages, constantly clicking cameras. Also in the city, it is really easier to stand out, to achieve something. You don’t have to go “over the corpses”, weave intrigues, but you can just work comfortably and even on large projects.
Incidentally, the trend in the world today is decentralization. The time when the capitals pulled talents from all over the country into their cauldron has already passed. people prefer normal life, work and leisure. They are proud that they live in small towns, and with modern transport it is no longer a problem to go to the capital or the village. Residents of European or American towns are proud of their choice, they will not exchange their cozy city for anything. With the development of the Internet, it has become easier to work on interesting projects from your comfortable city. Life in the capital is no longer an unambiguous indicator of success.
If every house in the town is familiar, then this means that everyone has their own story, everything here is filled with meaning. And if everything seems uninteresting, then perhaps the person has stopped looking for something unusual. Sometimes it is enough to take a new path, to pay attention to closed door. If a person does not see the magic of life in small things, then he will soon get tired of large scales. The radiance of lights bothers, again boring.
And usually in the city everything is very compact. Yes, you can walk a lot. You can easily and without traffic jams go to the forest, to the river. Usually, artists still do not forget small towns - they come with concerts. In extreme cases, you can also go to the capital, take a walk around the city, and culturally enlighten yourself. Take the best and come back.
A big city can be beautiful, but a small city is often more comfortable. Created a city for life.
Results
Of course, everyone must make their own choice. Feel the atmosphere of a small town, feel the atmosphere. The main thing is not to be a hostage of stereotypes, but to look at what is more comfortable.

In the second question of the interview with Pavel Berestnev, we found out how many and which ones Pavel translated into Russian. Now let's take an interest in the secrets of the success of a person who lives, like Berestnev, in a small town.
Andrey Khvostov: Pavel, you yourself were born in a small town, in Kolomna, so it will be easy for you to answer the following question. As a person from a small provincial town become so successful famous person like Pavel Berestnev?
Pavel Berestnev: Actually, I was born in a city that is much smaller than Kolomna. This is the city of Borisoglebsk, Voronezh region. In Kolomna, I grew up and got stronger.
I'll tell you so. Geographic location doesn't really matter as long as you have Internet access and it all works. The only barrier that exists on the Internet is language. All other barriers do not exist there.
An interesting question, of course, is how to become. Just take it and start doing what you want to do. Do not need anything else. No tricks needed.
And as an example. Recently, I had a training on finding customers for copywriters “How to find a customer for a copywriter,” and I told this story at it.
When I first looked for clients for copywriting, I sent a fax to all cities, to all enterprises, offering my services. I sent several hundred of these faxes to all cities and villages. And the first contract that I signed was with an enterprise located in my city, 10 minutes by tram from where I was.
Here it is useful to recall the speech, the lecture by Kononov "Macrobrilliant" that diamonds lie in our own river, which flows between our own mountains.
It is clear that the neighbor's grass is always greener. But I tell you again, colleagues, if you want to open a chain of stores, some kind of supermarket chain, your geographical position It has great importance. It has great value, how many people are in your city, what kind of competitors are there, etc.
If you are going to work via the Internet, this is not so relevant. Therefore, the only thing I can say - start doing what you have in mind, and you will be happy. No need to be smart, everything is simple here.
Andrey Khvostov: The secret is very simple - action.
Pavel Berestnev: There is no secret - that's the secret.

Everyone who lives in small towns is familiar with the idea of "it's time to go" that is constantly in the air. In my native Sterlitamak, in city public places, you can easily meet people who lament that there is no work, money, etc. here. These people throughout their lives want to go somewhere where they will be happy, but still do not leave. What about those who do not want to live in a small town, but cannot “get off”?
There is a potted flower Anthurium, it was brought to Russia from Central and South America. It looks quite nice, but it is too capricious - it is extremely problematic to keep such a plant at home. Either the temperature does not suit him, then there is too much moisture, and the roots began to rot. In general, this flower can be transplanted indefinitely, but this will not change its nature. He is moody and inept. Anthurium juice is poisonous, so the plant is recommended to be kept away from cats and children so that they do not accidentally eat the plant. That is, the nature of anthurium not only creates problems for itself, but also harms others.
When a person begins to whine that he lives in the wrong city, he not only spends his energy (time, strength, emotions) on destructive activities, but also sucks strength from those around him - poisons them with his poison. People are inert beings. As soon as one person in the crowd begins to succumb to apathy, there will be others who are ready to feed his cowardice with their own weakness and join the choral “lament of Yaroslavna”. Here it begins: “There is no work”, “Salaries are low”, “girls do not give”, and all this is because of the city. Every time you are tempted to justify your own failures with the place you live in, remember that no matter where you are “transplanted”, your nature will not change from this, and poisonous juice will continue to flow through your “stems”. It will continue to poison the life of you and everyone around you.
So, anthurium people are everywhere, regardless of locality, and everywhere they are the same - only the scale of thinking differs:
- In villages and villages, they dream of leaving for the conditional Sterlitamak (a neighboring city with a population higher than theirs).
— In small towns, like Sterlitamak (numbering 285 thousand people as of 2013), anthurium people look closely, mainly at Ufa, Kazan and other regional capitals.
- In regional capitals, like Ufa, they want to get to Moscow or St. Petersburg.
- Anthurium people from St. Petersburg and Moscow want to "get out of Rashka."
All anthurium people are equally unhappy, unsuccessful, unsuccessful, confused, they don’t know what they want from life and don’t even know how to make sure that they get at least something from this life. I witnessed a wonderful discussion video about Sterlitamak. There was an epidemic of whining. As always, people complained that we didn't have a job, a decent salary, and so on. From my position, I can say the following: our salaries are two times less than in St. Petersburg, this is a fact. But the fact that life in St. Petersburg is twice as expensive is also a fact.
Stop whining, go and work
Just a few months ago, a partner from the city on the Neva came to me, and he was delighted with the Capitol cafe, where you can buy a barbecue for 160 rubles. You won't find anything like this in Peterborough. Renting housing in Moscow and St. Petersburg is also consistently twice as expensive. Chicken breasts now cost 130-150 rubles, in St. Petersburg - 330 rubles. Do you still think that lower salaries are not justified? OK. I understand the desire to earn more. So, look for ways: grow within your company, create a small business (read the stories of my friends from Sterlitamak who are), look for a part-time job. There are a lot of options, but for this you need to work, and not just open your mouth and wait for someone to put food in it. Just follow the instructions:
1. Looking for a job;
2. Get a job;
3. We work.
Yes, it's that simple. Just three steps, and the plant turns into a full-fledged person. Work ennobles.
Do you want to be appreciated? Show respect for people
Do you think there are no jobs in Sterlitamak? As an employer, I will tell you that there are jobs in Sterlitamak, rather, there are no employees. MFI “I like money” now employs 5 people, and I was tired of putting together this small team. Do you know why? Because every time I posted an ad, I set aside a day to conduct interviews. The interval between candidates is 1 hour. And what is the result? As a result, 60% of candidates did not come to the interview without explanation. These are lawyers, and accountants, and loan managers. They did not even consider it necessary to call and warn that they would not come. This disrespect for other people's time, disrespect, in principle, for people already characterizes them as unreliable partners and bad colleagues. Nobody needs such employees.
Do you want to get a good salary? Do your job well and be a normal person. Again, as an example, I will cite a colleague who is working with us now. Her monthly salary is already 25% higher than the average salary in the market, and it will continue to rise. Do you know why? Because the girl works and does her job well. Work is the key to success. Do you want to live well, but do not want to work? It means that you yourself are to blame for your failures, and the city has nothing to do with it.
Do you want to take the first steps, but do not know in which direction? Try in any
I understand very well that there are not so many entertainment venues in Sterlitamak, there are no types of entertainment at all, but I am also aware that we have wonderful nature - and this is very valuable. Understand that in the summer you can get into the car and in 15 minutes you will be on the lake or on the river bank, swim, pick berries, mushrooms, have a picnic with your friends. This is not Moscow, along which patches of greenery in the form of parks and squares are dotted. In winter, in an hour's drive, you can find yourself on a ski slope and slide down with a breeze on a snowboard. Instead of focusing on the shortcomings of your city, pay attention to its advantages, and your mood will improve 🙂
P.S. Maybe somewhere I wrote too sharply, somewhere I offended someone. Sorry. I just want people who have in their heads bad thought, as if another city could give you a heavenly life, rethought their views. Perhaps you shouldn't leave? At least, if you do not have a specific goal, desire or dream that cannot be realized in your city. For example, if you want to become a flight attendant, but there are no planes in Sterlitamak.
Some dream of living in a metropolis, others cannot stand the hustle and bustle of a big city and seek to leave it. But how to make the right decision and understand whether this option is right for you? To do this, consider all the advantages and disadvantages of living in a metropolis.
Advantages
First, consider all the advantages of living in a metropolis:
- Interesting and useful contacts. Indeed, get to know interesting people and it is much easier to establish promising connections in a big city than in a small one. The metropolis attracts people, especially ambitious, educated, active and purposeful.
- Opportunity to get a good education and prestigious profession. There are more higher education in the metropolis educational institutions, and staff training for highest level, and that is why there are so many nonresident students here, each of whom dreams, after graduating from the university, to get a start in life and build a career.
- Living in a metropolis disciplines. You have to get up early every day to be in time for work, take care of yourself to look good, keep yourself in shape to attract the attention of the opposite sex.
- More opportunities to build a personal life and start a family. Even the most modest girl in a large city is easier to find a soul mate, because many male residents of megacities are not shy. The representatives of the stronger sex also have many more options. This advantage has several explanations. First, there are more public places where dating usually takes place in large and developed regions. Secondly, residents inevitably contact and interact with each other. Thirdly, you can register on a dating site and meet with a virtual interlocutor.
- Developed infrastructure. In a large city in every district there are schools and kindergartens, clinics and hospitals, large shops, shopping centers and other institutions people need for full life. Residents of small towns sometimes have to go to large regional centers to receive qualified medical care, solve housing issues, and for other reasons.
- Various leisure options. In any metropolis there are cinemas, shopping and entertainment centers, restaurants, bars, fast food chains and cafes, museums, water parks, nightclubs, theaters, zoos and much more. The entertainment industry is developed, and new establishments are constantly opening where you can have fun, interesting and even useful time.
- Availability of different categories of goods. Many manufacturers and suppliers focus specifically on large cities, and therefore we can safely say that it is possible to buy almost everything in them, including cutting-edge gadgets, exotic products and unusual things.
- Job. There are many more opportunities to build a career in the metropolis, as there are many enterprises and various institutions that need employees, including young, active and creative ones. There are much fewer vacancies in the villages.
- Opportunity to open a business and grow a business. If you are an enterprising and smart person, then you can become an entrepreneur.
- Earnings in megacities are an order of magnitude higher than in small settlements, this is a fact. Therefore, the standard of living is better, which opens up opportunities for development, improving the status and financial situation.
- The ability to travel. All metropolitan areas have international airports, railway and bus stations. In addition, embassies and travel agencies are located here, so organizing a trip abroad is much easier from here than from the village.
Flaws
Now let's look at the disadvantages of living in a big city:
- Bad ecology. There are many plants, factories and other enterprises in the metropolis, the emissions of which pollute environment. Some compounds get into the air and are inhaled by people, other substances get into the water and also inevitably rush into the human body. Besides, in major cities many more cars, whose emissions also have an extremely negative impact to the ecological situation.
- Listing all the shortcomings, it is worth including the rhythm of life in their list. In some megacities, it is simply mad, so it will be very difficult for people accustomed to a measured existence to adapt to it. Some, unable to adapt and learn to constantly rush and keep up, eventually change their place of residence.
- Big competition. To get a good position, you need to make a lot of effort, because several people are likely to apply for it. It is important to be able to present yourself with better side, highlight their positive qualities and prove their capabilities and strengths. Not everyone is ready for this.
- Frequent illnesses. Unfortunately, residents of megacities get sick much more often than those living in small settlements. Firstly, a frantic rhythm undermines the immune system, due to which the body's defenses weaken, and a person cannot resist the attacks of pathogenic microorganisms. Secondly, due to the congestion of people and high population density, all contagious diseases spread at a rapid pace, which often leads to epidemics. Thirdly, it is sometimes simply impossible to limit contacts with patients, because often they are in close proximity to healthy people.
- The modern metropolis is great amount people, and not everyone likes this feature. If you prefer loneliness, are a modest person, an introvert, or, moreover, a sociopath who does not know how to exist in society, then you will have a very difficult time.
- The next minus is important for car owners. Since many residents of large cities have personal transport and have long been not a luxury, but a means of transportation, this inevitably leads to the formation of congestion and traffic jams. Things are much worse with the traffic situation: in megacities, traffic is busier, and accidents happen more often.
- A huge flow of information that not everyone can handle. To keep abreast of the events taking place in the city and keep up with life, you need to use modern gadgets, regularly study the media, be an active Internet user and be able to process data, filtering out everything unnecessary and highlighting the most important.
- Small spaces, cramped. Megacities are quickly built up and settled, new people constantly come to them, so at some point you may get the impression of a lack of space, especially if you are used to space and freedom.
- People. Since many of them are constantly in a hurry, give 100% and get tired at work, they become withdrawn, irritable and indifferent, and this is sad.
Living in a big city has both advantages and disadvantages, so do not rush to the city if you are in doubt and are not ready for change. But new opportunities and perspectives may open before you.

My name is Anton, I am 29 years old. After 8 years of living in a metropolis, I decided to make serious changes and moved to the Russian outback. I was offered a job as a manager large enterprise, but I chose a different path and returned to my native small town. I've been living here for 6 years now and, you know, I'm happy. And in this article I will tell you why life in a small town can be better life in the metropolis.
AT website often talk about life in other countries. I want to tell my story about the treasures hidden in the provincial hinterland.
Why did I move
After I graduated from a Kazan university, I proposed to my girlfriend, and together we began to decide how to live further and what we really want from life. This resulted in a list:
- house overlooking the river
- big family;
- travels;
- chat with friends;
- red lazy cat and fawn labrador;
- favorite work.
All this was a little like the life that we could afford in Kazan. Then we decided to take a chance: we hired a truck and moved to the outback. Part of the furniture was presented to relatives, some things were put in garages.
Housing
In Kazan, we lived in a rented apartment with a view of the neighboring courtyard, but a 20-minute drive from the center. This pleasure cost almost one of our two salaries. Now the average cost of renting a 1-room apartment in Kazan is 19,675 rubles. Pretty soon we thought about buying our own home. The average price of a 1-room apartment in Kazan with an area of 37 sq. m - 2,685,200 rubles.
In Zainsk, for this money, you can buy two 2-room apartments with an area of 45 sq. m(an average of 1,100,000 rubles). But we dreamed of a house overlooking the river. As a result, a 2-storey house with an area of 110 sq. m cost us about 2 million rubles, and about 240 thousand more went to the construction of the bath.
At the same time, we live in the historical center of the city, far from industrial enterprises. A 10-minute walk compactly located a modern clinic with dentistry, a renovated school, Kindergarten, youth centre. And now they are also equipping the embankment.
Food
In Kazan, we ate what we bought in the supermarket. We are also in Zainsk most we buy provisions in a chain store, but we dilute the diet with village food: milk, eggs, meat, potatoes, mushrooms, cottage cheese.
For example, tomatoes from local farmers are sold in a private shop 10 minutes walk from the house, and the price is lower. We take meat if someone we know offers. We collect mushrooms ourselves. So the diet is more varied, and the products are cheaper.
Here, almost everyone has gardens, everyone makes preparations for the winter. We also started growing vegetables. We harvested a good crop of cucumbers and zucchini, but everything else was not so simple: carrots grew the size of a little finger, dill and parsley did not sprout at all. We are so-so gardeners, but before we could not even think that we would undertake to plant at least something.
Work
I combined my studies at a Kazan university with part-time jobs, which sometimes brought a small, and sometimes quite a tangible income. Then one of my friends offered to organize a special equipment rental business - we didn’t earn much, but we got great experience. At one of the research conferences, a company representative approached me and offered me a position as a manager at a large plant in Kazan. It wasn't easy to refuse.
When I moved to Zainsk, I did not know where I would be hired. There is a sugar factory here (one of the largest in Russia), factories for the production of car rims, mineral wool, confectionery, we have a large hydroelectric power station. I reasoned like this: if nothing happens with Zainsk, there are three cities within half an hour's drive where you can look for a place.
Now the average salary in Zainsk is almost 30,000 rubles, in Kazan - about 40,000 rubles.
Immediately after the move, I went to work at a steel structure factory. I was promised a good salary (25,000 rubles, which increased to 30,000 rubles in six months), training to work on new equipment and growth prospects.
At the same time, I and a few of my friends began to revive the club in which I was engaged in army hand-to-hand combat as a child. A year later, I quit the factory because I was offered a full-time job in the youth department. The salary was promised almost two times less than at the factory, but I really liked the work, so I agreed.
Then I was offered to combine the leadership of the club with the position of chief of staff of the Yunarmiya public organization and was given a small increase in salary.
It was possible to earn more at the factory, but I like my job. On holidays, we go hiking with our pupils, in the summer we have a specialized camp, we take children to competitions, we hold tournaments ourselves.
Demand for ideas
In Kazan, we wanted to open a section on military hand-to-hand combat. The idea has remained an idea - we could not find a free training ground.
In Zainsk, we immediately found a gym on the basis of the youth center, and two years ago they built a center patriotic education with offices, a gym and a shooting gallery.
All projects that we come up with are always supported by the administration. For example, we have developed courses for sports development "Level up your hero", we have made a special mobile application with real trainings. Everyone helped us to implement the program: the department of culture, sports, the military registration and enlistment office and public organizations. Now we are thinking about how to transfer the experience of Zainsk to other cities.
Holiday price
In Kazan, we participated in the Taste of Wedding project for future newlyweds, in which it was possible to win 50,000 rubles for organizing the celebration. Even if we won, the amount of winnings would be enough only for the services of the organizers. The holiday itself for 100 people would cost at least 300,000 rubles. Those who want to celebrate the celebration on a grand scale will give a much larger amount.
In Zainsk, we decided to have a Russian themed wedding, which cost us less than 100,000 rubles.
Travel time
In Kazan, even avoiding traffic jams on a moped, I spent at least an hour on the road. In Zainsk, I get to work in 15 minutes, given that in winter you need to clear the path from snow, call for a colleague and drop by the store along the way.
Services
In Zainsk, you save a lot on services, prices here are lower than in a big city. For example, a haircut Kazan, most likely, I would have cost about 350 rubles. You can “change shoes” for a car for 1,000 rubles.
AT Zainsk right in the city center without queues and records, I cut my hair for 200 rubles. And it was one of the most expensive men's haircuts. I usually “change shoes” for a car for free from a mechanic friend, but if I did it for money, I would give 500 rubles.
Hobby
In Kazan, after work and study, there was only time left to watch the series without strength. In Zainsk, we felt how slowly time flows. At first I found a hobby for myself - I began to make items for the house: a wooden fireplace, shelves, lamps from an old chandelier. This is its buzz - the "IKEA effect" (when it's crooked, but itself) gives a lot of pleasure.
Here is another leisure: in the autumn you must pickle something, dry it, freeze mushrooms, vegetables and berries for the winter; in the summer you collect and knit brooms; carpentry in winter. And many locals constantly making something. My neighbor in the garage makes metal souvenirs to order. His friend makes baskets out of vines. And, of course, everyone builds something, attaches, repairs.
In Kazan, I played the guitar at home for friends. In Zainsk, a musician friend suggested that I play in a rock band. We rehearsed 3 times a week after work. With concerts, we traveled around a bunch of biker festivals of the republic, performed at a dozen events in our hometown.
Rest and communication
In Kazan, we saw friends on big holidays or on very carefully planned weekends. We went to a cafe, chatted and went home. Now the meetings have to be planned even more carefully, but if the schedules have already crossed, then just for a few days - friends come to us as if they are in a sanatorium: we swim in the river together, take a steam bath, sunbathe, go downhill in winter.
In a small town, you learn to relax in a different way, for example, you can go fishing with your dad, hunting with your brother, picking mushrooms with your grandmother. And all the big holidays are held in a completely different way than in a large city.
Yes, on New Year I put on a Santa Claus costume, we arrange contests, kids read poetry - it turns out a real holiday. And there are many more days ahead to ride down the hill, play board games, have a snowball fight and build a snowman. No need to stand in line to ride down the mountain, because there are a lot of slides - take and ride, and no one here will be perplexed to watch how adults play snowballs.
Kazan is a wonderful city, I am very glad that I managed to live there and observe the life of the metropolis from the inside, feel its beauty, rhythm, cordiality and hospitality. Here I learned a lot, found friends and met love.
But you can also feel happy in a small town. Although it does have its downsides. So, in Zainsk there are not enough narrow specialists, for example, doctors. And yet there is no university, which means that young people leave to study in big cities and rarely come back. There are not many cultural objects in a small town. But you can always go to a theater or a gallery in another city. Despite these shortcomings, life in the outback has many advantages, which I tried to tell you about in this article.
What city are you happy in? Why do you love the place that has become your home?
