Buryat State University- one of the oldest universities in Siberia, established in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of September 30, 1995 and the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of November 2, 1995 on the basis of the Buryat State Pedagogical Institute(BSPI) named after Dorzhi Banzarov (founded in 1932) and a branch of Novosibirsk State University in Ulan-Ude.
The founder of FSBEI HE "Buryat State University" is the Ministry of Education and Science Russian Federation. Location of the Founder: 125993, Moscow, st. Tverskaya, 11.
At present, BSU is a backbone educational institution, since it trains personnel for all bodies of education, science, management, economics, health care, social sphere etc.
One of the fundamental principles of the Belarusian State University is the implementation of a system of continuous training of scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel: from schools, colleges to the university, graduate school, doctoral studies.
Today the university includes 7 faculties:

BSU has the largest scientific potential in the Baikal region. Almost all types of fundamental research are carried out in it. Many departments conduct applied and innovative research. The university has developed leading scientific schools world-class in the field of condensed matter physics, botany, ornithology, history, Mongolian studies, sociology, philosophy, literature, linguistics, pedagogy.
BSU actively cooperates with leading Russian universities, institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Academy of Education and a number of international organizations dealing with the problems of education, science, culture and technology. This is primarily due to the fact that the university has retained best traditions accumulated in predecessor universities. An important factor in the development of the university was the constant search for non-standard solutions to improve the material base, attract highly qualified personnel and get out of those numerous crisis situations that arise in last years in the Russian educational space.
International Language Testing Centers operate at BSU, including the Testing Center German language at DAAD "DaF", Center for Testing Russian as a Foreign Language (Department of Russian as a Foreign Language). The university trains 305 graduate students and 17 doctoral students. There are 8 dissertation councils for 15 scientific specialties and 9 industries. At the beginning of 2011, a dissertation council was opened in physical and mathematical sciences in the specialty 05.13.18 "Mathematical modeling, numerical methods and software packages".
The material base of the university is expanding. The areas of educational and sports facilities are increasing, today there are 11 educational buildings, 7 dormitories, the Trud Sports House, the Spartak stadium, a sports and health camp on the Pike Lake Olympus, a boarding house and a sports and recreation complex on Lake Baikal.
